Dr Kerrie Aust, FRACGP
I completed my speciality training in General Practice in 2019. Prior to joining General Practice I worked at the Canberra Hospital Health Service in paediatrics, sexual health, gastroenterology, addiction medicine, emergency medicine and ENT. I completed my medical degree at the ANU Medical School. I continue to work with the medical school as a Clinical Senior Lecturer within the ANU School of Medicine and Psychology (SMP), ANU College of Health and Medicine.
My favourite part of medicine is looking after an entire family. I have an interest in preventative health, and helping everyone to achieve the best possible health outcomes. I enjoy women’s health, men’s health, antenatal care, paediatrics, weight management and mental health, including addiction medicine. I also do skin checks and simple excisions.
I have capacity to provide cognitive based therapy (CBT) under the Focussed Psychological Strategies program for eligible patients with a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP. My areas of interest are mild to moderate depression, anxiety and phobias. I do not have qualifications or experience sufficient to provide talking therapy for complex trauma.
I am an ACT AMA Board Member (2021) and the current President for the ACT. I relish the opportunity to advocate for quality healthcare in the ACT region, as well as addressing the long term challenges associated with underfunding of primary care in Australia. I am am member of the RACGP, the ACT Medical Women’s Society and the Canberra Transgender Care Network.
I volunteer with DRS4DRS ACT. In this role I work with our local committee and on-call team to support doctors and medical students in the Canberra Region. More information can be found at the following link.
Outside of medicine I try to practice what I promote – I enjoy running, cycling and walking our beautiful dogs. I do quite like baking, or enjoying the spoils of someone else spending time in the kitchen. I devour books frequently, and love to recommend my favourites to anyone who will listen. When travel restrictions permit, we love a trip to the coast to stay with our extended family.
