There has been a noticeable drop in temperature in Amsterdam. Nice to escape the heat of the European heatwave for a couple of days.

Amsterdam has been my favourite city this trip. For me it had it all: the beautiful cobblestone streets, the UNESCO protected buildings with all of the history, the museums and the galleries. The canals were beautiful and the stroopwaffel worth every cent. I ate mine sitting by the canal, watching the boats float by on my last night here.

I was moved to tears in the Van Gogh Museum, listened to the history of Anne Frank (missed out on the tickets to the museum – book well ahead is the lesson for next time), and marveled at a city that loves to cycle. The MOCO gallery was worth a wander through, the story of street art and the visual overwhelm of some of the exhibitions were worth getting lost in.

The pace of Amsterdam is a little slower, the people friendly and the food was wonderful. I loved the tour on the canal and could have floated all day.

Amsterdam marks the end of the solo portion of my journey. In the next city I meet up with my wonderful friend and we continue the journey through Scandinavia together.
